Our Hugelkultur Garden

This term we have been making a new garden using the permaculture method known as hugelkultur. This type of garden started in Germany and is made with layers of logs under the ground. Then sticks are added and the top layers are soil, mulch and compost.

Our class did lots of research and exploring the internet for information of the best ways to make our garden. Now we have started making our garden. It’s really hard digging because its such hard ground but it’s still fun.

I would like to plant lots of strawberry plants and native plants like hebes to attract bees and birds.

Our Mara Kai

Kia ora, This term we’ve been learning about gardens, composting and worm farming. We have been planting seedlings and making sure we empty our scraps and paper towels in to our compost bins. My favourite thing about it is the worms. I like looking after the worms and pouring the worm pee on the plants. It is important to add water to the worm pee.
